Sravan Renjith is a Chess Prodigy and Chess Champion.
By the age of 12, Sravan had been playing chess for 7 years and, by the age of 11,
competing in the Oceania Youth and Oceania Under 20 Chess Championships 2019 in Auckland, New Zealand, he achieved a norm equivalent to FIDE Master. Following Covid, technical steps will be taken which will enable this title to be formally awarded.*
During what can only be described as a brilliant chess career, Sravan has competed in many chess tournaments and won many trophies. He is currently the third highest FIDE rated player in the
U20 category in
Australia and the Top Junior rated player in the
U18 category in
Queensland.
Sravan is engaging, quick thinking and highly intelligent. He has extensive
knowledge and understanding of chess theory and strategies and he uses
this knowledge and skill to advantage. His analysis of chess game is equivalent
to that of a professional chess player.
Sravan is a well-spoken, confident speaker and an outstanding chess representative who is adept at teaching, mentoring and imparting his chess knowledge to others.
The Renjith family moved from New Zealand to Queensland, Australia in 2016 and Sravan attended MacGregor State School where he continued his chess study and Captained the Chess Team in numerous Interschool Chess Competitions throughout 2017 and 2018.
In 2019, Sravan was awarded an academic scholarship to the Church of England Grammar School (Churchie) where he was selected to Captain the Primary Grade Chess Team in 2019.
In 2020, in the role of Captain and playing on the First Board, Sravan led the Churchie team to win a Gold Medal at the Queensland Senior School Interschool Championships. This winning team will compete in the Australian Interschool Chess Championships in December.
Sravan has successfully competed in international chess tournaments in Australia,New Zealand, India, and Thailand.
Sravan would love to represent his adopted country of Australia but is unable to do so until he obtains Australian citizenship. Until that occurs he will remain a New Zealand citizen, unable to become a member of the Australian Chess Federation and unable to represent Australia in upcoming Chess Olympiads and international tournaments.
His rating will be based on a New Zealand rating.
* Many tournaments were cancelled during Covid which would have enabled Sravan to achieve the required FIDE rating of 2100 for FIDE Master.
